# Connect to Codex

> Add Aidan to OpenAI Codex. Sign in once in your browser, with no API keys

## Overview

Add Aidan to **Codex** and it can work in your Aidan account from any session: build and edit agents, run workflows, search conversations, send messages and calls, and pull reports.

You sign in on an Aidan page in your browser. Codex never sees your password. It gets a token that renews itself, and you can disconnect at any time.

One setup covers the Codex CLI, the Codex app in ChatGPT for desktop, and the Codex IDE extension. They share the same settings and sign-in.

> [!NOTE]
>
> You'll need your Aidan email and password. If you normally sign in with
> Google, use **Forgot password** on the Aidan sign-in page to set a password
> first.

## Add it with the Codex CLI

**1. Add the server**

Run this in your terminal:

```bash theme={null}
codex mcp add aidan --url https://api.callaidan.com/mcp
```

**2. Sign in**

```bash theme={null}
codex mcp login aidan
```

Your browser opens an Aidan sign-in page. Enter your Aidan email and
password and click **Sign in and connect**, then enter the 6-digit code
we email you. Once the browser shows that sign-in is complete, go back to
the terminal. You're connected.

**3. Check it**

Start Codex and run `/mcp`. **aidan** should be listed with its tools.
Then just ask:

> List my agents and tell me which ones had failed calls this week.

> [!NOTE]
>
> Finish signing in, including the emailed code, within 5 minutes. After that
> Codex stops waiting, and you run `codex mcp login aidan` again.

> [!TIP]
>
> On a server or over SSH, where no browser can open, run
> `codex mcp login aidan --no-browser`. Codex prints a link. Open it on any
> device and sign in.

## Add it in the Codex app or IDE extension

**1. Open MCP settings**

In the Codex app, open **Settings → MCP servers**. In the IDE extension,
open the gear menu and choose **MCP servers**.

**2. Add the server**

Click **Add server** and fill in:

| Field | Value |
| - | - |
| Name | `aidan` |
| Type | **Streamable HTTP** |
| URL | `https://api.callaidan.com/mcp` |

Leave headers and tokens empty, then click **Save** and restart Codex when
asked.

**3. Sign in**

Click **Authenticate** next to **aidan** and sign in on the page that
opens. If you don't see the button, run `codex mcp login aidan` in a
terminal. The sign-in is shared, so the app picks it up.

## Or edit config.toml

The CLI, app and IDE extension all read `~/.codex/config.toml`. Adding the server there does the same thing as `codex mcp add`:

```toml theme={null}
[mcp_servers.aidan]
url = "https://api.callaidan.com/mcp"
```

Then run `codex mcp login aidan` to sign in. To give one project its own setup, put the same block in `.codex/config.toml` inside that project.

## What you can ask

> Create an outbound sales agent for Acme Roofing. Friendly, qualifies budget and timeline, books a 15-minute discovery call.

> Add every contact tagged "reactivation" that hasn't been called yet to the AI Reactivation Sequence workflow.

> Pull the last 30 calls for the Gamma Plumbing booking agent and tell me why it keeps losing on price.

> Text Jane Smith that her appointment moved to 3pm.

## Agency accounts

If you sign in with an agency account, Codex can reach every client under your agency. Tell it which one to work in:

> Switch me over to Delta Roofing.

Codex remembers the active client for your connection until you switch again. You can also name the client in a request: *"How many calls did Beta Dental take yesterday?"*

## Before anything risky

Deleting an agent, workflow or contacts, releasing a phone number, or starting a workflow for more than a handful of contacts doesn't happen straight away. Aidan sends back a summary of what will happen, and Codex asks you to confirm before it runs.

## Security

* **Your password stays with Aidan.** You type it on an Aidan page, never into Codex.
* **Codex holds a token, not your login.** It's kept in your system keychain, replaced every hour, and lasts up to 180 days before you'll be asked to sign in again.
* **Two-step sign-in.** Connecting needs the 6-digit code we email you, just like signing in to the dashboard.
* **Your access, nothing more.** Codex can do what your Aidan login can do, and no more.
* **Disconnect any time.** Run `codex mcp logout aidan`, or remove the server with `codex mcp remove aidan`. Changing your Aidan password also disconnects every connected app.

## Troubleshooting

> **"That email and password do not match"**
>
> Check you're using your Aidan login. If you sign in with Google, set a
> password with **Forgot password** on the Aidan sign-in page first.

> **The browser says it can't reach 127.0.0.1**
>
> Codex stopped waiting for the sign-in, usually because it took longer than
> 5 minutes. Run `codex mcp login aidan` again and finish signing in
> straight away.

> **The sign-in code didn't arrive**
>
> Check your spam folder, then click **Send a new code** on the sign-in
> page. If 5 minutes have passed, run `codex mcp login aidan` again first.

> **"Too many attempts"**
>
> Sign-in locks for 15 minutes after repeated wrong passwords. Wait, then
> try again.

> **Codex doesn't use the Aidan tools**
>
> Run `codex mcp list` to check the server is there, and `/mcp` inside Codex
> to see its tools. Then try naming it: *"Using Aidan, list my workflows."*

> **It stopped working after a while**
>
> You changed your password, or the connection reached its 180-day limit.
> Run `codex mcp login aidan` again.
